As a musculoskeletal clinician, Dr. Palmer is legally required to perform a history and examination before rendering treatment to any patient. It is important for her to make sure that she is providing you with the best care for what you are coming in with, whether that is care at Peak & Valley or a referral to another provider.
If needed, imaging can be ordered through SMIL or SimonMed. Dr. Palmer will order the image and afterward, you can call to schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience. Dr. Palmer can access the images online once they are taken and review them with you.
1.) Motion Palpation Institute (MPI) – MPI challenges the old school chiropractic paradigm. Motion palpation teaches providers how to become “the best palpator’s and adjustors on the planet.” MPI helps chiropractors become clinically excellent at functional assessments and highly competent with their hands-on adjusting skills. Providers trained in motion palpation are trained to know when to adjust and when not to adjust. Motion assessments are incorporated into appointments, which aids in knowing which area of the spine would benefit from chiropractic manipulation and create the most impactful change along the biomechanical chain.
2.) Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy (MDT) – aka, the “McKenzie” technique. MDT is a “reliable assessment process intended for all musculoskeletal problems including pain in the back, neck, and extremities.” MDT allows trained clinicians to determine the cause of symptoms, such as- disc disorders, neurological injuries, arthritis, degenerative changes, and/or muscle spasms. MDT is a scientifically proven process that helps patients implement an exercise-based approach to managing symptoms on their own. It allows patients to learn the cause of their symptoms without the use of unnecessary imaging (x-rays and MRI’s) and teaches them proper management to empower them to take their health into their own hands.
3.) Clinical Neurodynamics – Clinical Neurodynamics is defined as, “the clinical application of mechanics and physiology of the nervous system as they relate to each other and are integrated with musculoskeletal function.” Practitioners trained in this assessment are able to apply specific treatment interventions that link a diagnosis with a causal mechanism (i.e. being able to treat the cause, not just the symptom). Providers are taught the manual skills necessary to assess for abnormalities in movement related to the nervous system. Put much simpler… Clinical Neurodynamics allows for proper assessment of how the nervous system (peripherally and centrally) contributes to our daily aches, pains, and “muscle tension”.
**Other sports medicine modalities can be used in conjunction with these treatment approaches, such as- FRC, DNS, trigger-point dry needling, cupping, IASTM, and pin & stretch muscle techniques.
This will depend on the area of your body that you’d like to have assessed. Generally, we recommend a loose fitting shirt and athletic shorts to allow for a proper functional assessment. We can provide a gown or shorts if you would prefer.
The short answer, no.
Dr. Palmer is an evidence-based chiropractor who utilizes a thorough history and examination to rule in what is and is not indicated as a course of treatment for each patient. Routine x-rays are not taken and adjustments are not performed based on spinal “alignment”. While imaging can be informative, it does not always indicate pain generators and/or sites of dysfunction in the kinetic chain. The body is not a static creature. Therefore, a static picture in time does not encompass what is always needed when treating the spine. Dr. Palmer performs chiropractic manipulation in areas of the spine and/or extremities that are clinically indicated. She has been thoroughly trained utilizing the Motion Palpation Institute (MPI) assessment and applies adjustments to joints that are limited in range of motion.

" Lisa is the best! I have been seeing her to treat some chronic back and neck pain I deal with from working extensive hours at a desk and I always leave feeling refreshed.
She gives me tips to help manage the pain and stretch for in between sessions that are easy to do, while educating me on what causes the pain and how to relieve it. She’s always informative and never pushy. I always feel safe when she does the corrections! I was terrified of getting my neck cracked and I’m so glad I let her do it because it’s relieved so much pain and headaches I used to get. "
